Folk fever in children

What is a three-day fever (folk fever).
A three-day fever is a disease that affects only children between the ages of six months and three years. Adults are ill very rarely. For a three-day fever is characterized by intense fever (body temperature rises to 40 ° C, then falls sharply), and there are specific rashes on the body of light red color, occupying large areas of the skin.

After 1-2 days, the rashes disappear. With a three-day fever, there are usually no complications, there are almost no residual lesions. Having overcome it, the child for the whole life keeps immunity against a three-day fever.

SYMPTOMS:
- The body temperature is high for three days;
- On the 4th day the temperature suddenly falls;
- On the fourth day there are rashes.
The reasons for the three-day fever.
The causes of the appearance of a three-day fever are still unclear. However, many scientists suggest that this disease is caused by the virus exanthema subitum, which affects the skin of small children and nerve wires.

Treatment of a three-day fever.
An effective remedy for a three-day fever is absent. However, the symptoms of this disease can be mitigated. At high temperature, antipyretic drugs are used. To avoid febrile seizures, cold compresses are applied to the gastrocnemius muscles, and when convulsions appear, medications are used from seizures.

How to help yourself?
If a child suddenly has a high fever, it is necessary to provide him with an abundant drink. In the absence of other ailments, antipyretic medications are usually used only when the temperature rises above 38.5 ° C.
When should I see a doctor?
If you gave the child antipyretics, but they did not help, call a doctor. To call an ambulance is necessary and in those cases, if the child refused to drink or began to have febrile convulsions.

Actions of the doctor.
If the child has a fever, the doctor will always examine his throat, because the cause of the fever may be purulent angina. He will also check the ears of the child, listen to the lungs, feel the stomach; make sure the muscles of the child's neck are not strained, since the tension of the neck muscles is a symptom of meningitis - an inflammation of the membranes of the brain and spinal cord.
A urine test is taken to make sure that the child does not have a urinary tract infection, which is a frequent cause of high fever. If this is really a three-day fever, the doctor will not find any symptoms of another illness.

Course of the disease.
The three-day fever begins suddenly - the child's body temperature rises to 40C. Sometimes he has a slight rhinitis, however, most often, in addition to high fever, there are no other symptoms of the disease. Fever lasts three days. Often the heat all this time and keeps. In other cases, it rises, then again attacks - the highest temperature is in the evenings. At high temperature, children react differently. Some remain active even at very high temperatures. Others are very unwell, so they have to be hospitalized. However, in any case on the 4th day the body temperature quickly begins to decrease and normalizes.

When the temperature is normal, there are rashes - small reddish pimples. First there is a rash on the back and stomach, then on the hands and feet, finally, on the face. These rashes quickly pass, and the child feels healthy.
Is this fever dangerous? This disease is completely harmless: after it there are no complications.
