A modern dental implant consists of a titanium screw. This screw is inserted through the surgical procedure into the jaw where there is no tooth, and the connecting part between the titanium root and the denture - the abutment. And only then the "inserted" implant is attached to the crown. The crown can be plastic, cermet, ceramic or gold, it all depends on the desire and financial capabilities of the patient. This design is considered a more reliable support for the denture.
Implant implantation is approximately one hour, and then the implant fuses with the bone forever. The implant, as a rule, is installed with "primary stabilization" (to become accustomed) to the bone rigidly and motionless. In case of weak "primary stabilization", the implant should be closed with a stub and then sewed into the gum for several months to allow the implant to grow together with the bone. After the complete fusion of the implant with the bone, the gum is opened, the cap is removed, and the abutment and the gingiva driver are screwed into the implant.
With a strong "primary stabilization" on the implant, a prosthesis (temporary construction) is installed for several months, which copes with both the chewing function and the aesthetic function. And only then they put on permanent prostheses. On the lower jaw implants take root two months, whereas on the upper jaw it takes up to six months.
What is the implantation of teeth better than prosthetics?
- There is no need to grind adjacent teeth to fix the defects of the dentition.
- With the help of convenient dental implants, you can restore the toothless jaw.
- Dental prostheses installed on implants are much more stable, and also more functional than traditional removable dentures.
- Prostheses on implants are invisible, which means it's easier to get used to them, since there is no discomfort. In addition, food does not get stuck under them.
- When chewing, the implant allows you to evenly distribute the load to the entire jaw, and this, in turn, will not allow atrophy at the place where the tooth is absent.
The operating life of a dental implant
There are no precise and specific data for today, since the first implant was installed to the first patient as early as 1965. and, as is known, it still functions. And in connection with a huge leap in technology, purity and quality of titanium, the term of such implants has certainly increased. Nevertheless, in order to avoid problems with implants, it is necessary to observe oral hygiene, and to monitor periodically to visit the dentist. Smoking and abuse of coffee increases the risk of losing the implant twice. With qualitative and competent prosthetics, implants will last for many years.
The price of dental implantation
Imported high-quality dental implants cost at least $ 200, and this is only the cost, because this amount does not include the price of plugs for implants, disposable tools, equipment, and other necessary materials. This amount did not include the salary of specialists and the profit of the clinic. And so the installation of an imported high-quality implant will cost $ 700-900.
Domestic dental implants are cheaper, but ... Experienced and qualified implant doctors are afraid to work with them, although many things are copied from the best foreign analogues. And, nevertheless, different problems can arise: cracking of implants, ingrowth of plug, deep settling of bone, inappropriate parts. And then it turns out that the operational period and the number of unforeseen situations will be directly proportional to the saved money.
Probably in the future, domestic implants will be better than now, but until this moment has come, it is better to use better implants.
Dental implantation: indications
- Lack of several teeth or one. Due to implantation, it is possible to seal up places with missing teeth. In this case, one does not even have to grind the neighboring teeth, as it is done, when bridges are installed, or other types of structures.
- Complete absence of teeth. In the case of a complete absence of the dentition, implantation is a more effective method of recovery, since without the presence of at least two teeth on both sides (for attachment) it is impossible to install conventional removable dentures.
- Absence of the last teeth in the row. In this situation, it is not possible to install conventional removable dentures, since there are no two points of support for fixing the prosthesis.
- High sensitivity (and hence intolerance to removable dentures) to the materials used in the manufacture of removable dentures.
Eliminated contraindications for dental implantation
- Poor oral hygiene;
- The presence of caries even on several teeth, especially in the immediate vicinity of the implant site;
- Inflammation of tissues and gums.
All this is eliminated during preparation for surgery. Before installing an implant, a dentist will check the mouth cavity for various diseases.
As for the patient, he will have to observe a careful hygiene of the oral cavity several months before the intervention, this will allow not only to get rid of existing gum disease, but also to prevent a repeated viral infection of tissues and teeth.
Dental implantation: contraindications
And here there are a number of contraindications, therefore it is very important before the operation to be examined by a physician-therapist, in order to exclude the presence of serious diseases that may serve as a restriction to the implant installation in the gum.
Contraindications for implantation:
- Tuberculosis;
- Violation of blood clotting;
- Diabetes;
- Various diseases of the central nervous system;
- Hypertonus of masticatory muscles;
- Malignant organ tumors;
- Hypertension, as well as other heart diseases;
- Stomatitis and other diseases of the oral cavity.
