Orthodontic constructions are such clever devices that help to correct "crooked teeth", and if to speak competently, the anomalies of the occlusion, dentition and individual teeth. As these adaptations improve, they become more popular, especially among young people - teenagers do not want to put up with a defect that spoils a smile, and are ready for some time to suffer discomfort and fulfill some additional duties.
Here there are no uniform rules for all orthodontic designs - it all depends on whether it is removable or non-removable, how many teeth are involved, whether there is rubber draft, etc. Therefore the word "individual" (hygiene of the oral cavity) in this case, as never before accurately reflects the essence of the problem.
If the design is removable ...
If a young man is equipped with a removable orthodontic device, oral hygiene will be very close to that in the presence of partial removable dental plates. However, it should be borne in mind that in a removable orthodontic design, more details (locks, springs, clamps) - all these miniature glands are willy-nilly involved in chewing food, so the plaque and microflora accumulate on them more intensively than on dentures. And if a partial removable prosthesis is removed for the night, the orthodontic apparatus is worn constantly and removed only in order to make it clean again.
At night, such a device, as a rule, is left in the oral cavity after preliminary cleansing of the teeth and the apparatus itself. In the morning before breakfast, rinse your mouth, wash the structure separately with running water. Brushing your teeth is done according to a common method after breakfast. When treating dentoalveolar anomalies, it is necessary to clean the teeth after each meal, and wash the orthodontic apparatus with water, regardless of whether it was or not in the oral cavity during meals.
IMPORTANT! At a childish and young age, when the enamel ripening processes are not yet completed, the plaque easily accumulates on the teeth when wearing dental plates, which quickly leads to the development of caries. Therefore, the young patient should immediately realize that if he is lazy and not thoroughly perform oral hygiene with orthodontic treatment, he will have equal teeth, but ... badly damaged by caries. So a beautiful smile is unlikely to succeed.
Cleaning of a removable orthodontic device is done with a personal toothbrush. Use a special two-sided brush with coarse bristles (designed for removable dentures) is not necessary - it can damage small parts of the structure. There is a special toothpaste for cleaning removable plate prostheses - here it is just worth buying and cleaning removable orthodontic devices. This paste effectively cleans, disinfects and deodorizes. If you do not buy it - it does not matter, you can use the usual hygienic paste with success. At the same time, it is better to use tooth-curative pastes containing anti-inflammatory, anti-irritating herbal components (the design comes into contact with soft tissues of the oral cavity, can injure them, irritate them), as well as fluoride ingredients (they will protect the teeth from caries). Treatment-and-prophylactic pastes can also be used to clean the removable structure.
Hygienic elixirs for mouth rinses and brief rinsing of the removable device for disinfection and deodorization can be used, but it is undesirable. It is better to use non-alcoholic herbaceous and fluoride therapeutic and preventive rinsers. Toothpicks and flosses should be used only for cleaning teeth, but not for ortho-donut designs (they may break). Interdental brushes and brushes-brushes separately clean various parts of the orthodontic apparatus (locks, springs, etc.) and the interdental spaces. Electric toothbrushes can be used, but after removing the orthodontic design. Monobular and small-manual manual toothbrushes are indicated for cleaning teeth and a removable device, but you need to have two separate brushes. Used for the design will wear out faster. With chewing gum for the time of orthodontic treatment will have to resolutely part.
If the structure is not removable ...
When wearing non-removable dental plates in the form of crowns, semicircles with soldered devices, it is better to use therapeutic and prophylactic toothpastes, but without strong antiseptics (except when the formation of plaque becomes uncontrollably fast). It is desirable that these pastes contain plant extracts and fluoride components, they will provide anti-carious and anti-inflammatory protective properties, which is extremely important when the own protective forces of the oral cavity are reduced due to rather crude interference from the non-removable orthodontic structures.
For massive, non-removable orthodontic structures, periodically, once every 2-3 weeks, pastes containing strong antimicrobial components (chlorocaine-sidin, bigluconate, triclosan, cetyl peridium chloride) should be used for prophylactic purposes. When treating with non-removable devices, it is most convenient to use a toothbrush with a power ledge (a "beak" composed of bundles of bristles of different lengths), which resembles the head of a small-tooth toothbrush very much. It allows deep penetration not only into the interdental spaces, but also under the arc of a permanent orthodontic device. Irrigators are effective for cleaning the oral cavity and for cleaning the detachable device, and cleaning them and retaining their fixing parts, braces glued on the surface of the teeth. There are also special orthodontic brushes - they have a longitudinal groove in the brush field that takes into account the construction of a non-removable orthodontic device, which allows to remove plaque more effectively.
For children and adolescents, non-alcoholic curative and prophylactic rinses containing extracts, plant oils and fluoride components are most suitable. The rinse aid needs to be changed once in two months, do not get carried away by the same long time. Flosses, interdental brushes can and should be used in all areas where there are no fixed orthodontic structures, as well as between teeth and a non-removable structure, or within the structure itself, where they pass freely and can be manipulated easily, without effort. The main thing is to maximally effectively clean any places of concentration of plaque and eliminate all caries provoking factors.
Irrigators are most effective if they have several modes of operation, which makes it possible to clean teeth and fixed orthodontic structures while massaging the gums. Orthodontic treatment - a long process, can stretch for months or even years. In this case, the patient has to visit the orthodontist frequently enough and sometimes change the prosthesis design, and hence the optimal set of personal oral hygiene products. So have patience, clearly follow this memo when wearing dental plates - and then you will surely achieve success!
