Toothache: how to treat during pregnancy?

Quite often the future mother is frightened by new, untested sensations, in particular - toothache: how to treat during pregnancy? As without panic, without spoiling the psyche, adequately assess your condition and properly help yourself before consulting a doctor? Naturally, toothache requires immediate treatment to the doctor. But before a visit to a dentist, you can try to reduce the pain by domestic methods.

The pain of the teeth can be caused by completely different causes. Most often the symptom is manifested with periodontitis - inflammation of the tissues that surround the root of the tooth, pulpitis - inflammation of the neurovascular bundle of the tooth. The tooth begins to hurt with caries, when cold or hot water, food enters the carious cavity. After elimination of the stimulus, the unpleasant symptom immediately disappears. If you do not contact a dentist at this stage, the disease progresses to more severe stages of the disease - pulpitis, and then periodontitis.

For what reason do expectant moms usually have toothaches?

Pregnancy is a significant change in the hormonal background. The result of this is a change in blood circulation in the mucous membranes and skin. This is what contributes to the aggravation, as well as the appearance of periodontitis, inflammation of periodontal tissues. According to statistics, it happens so often that many pregnant women suffer from gum disease.

Pregnant women always change the process of calcium metabolism. In a healthy woman, these changes most often occur unnoticed. But when finding any malfunctions in the body, a lack of calcium interferes with normal life. Early toxicosis, which is accompanied by nausea, persistent vomiting and lack of appetite, leads to the fact that the body receives an insufficient amount of calcium. At the 6-7th month of pregnancy, the future child begins rapid growth of the skeleton. The lack of calcium in the mother's blood often leads to resorption of her own bones. The jaws may be the first to suffer from this process. The alveolar processes, which create a hole for the tooth, lose calcium, which eventually contributes to periodontitis.

Pregnancy is almost always the time of exacerbation of chronic diseases. Colitis, enteritis, duodenitis, gastritis - all these diseases disrupt the usual absorption of calcium, which causes the body to decrease its level. Teeth also receive less calcium.

During pregnancy, the salivary glands work, which contains a "remineralizing" mixture of calcium and phosphate. Saliva strengthens the enamel, preventing the formation of caries in the washing of teeth. In pregnant women, the immune system is weakened, the protective properties of saliva are markedly reduced. In this regard, microbes that cause caries multiply intensively in the cavity. The combination of these factors leads to a very high incidence of caries and periodontitis.

How to help yourself?

It happens that there is no way to go to a specialist immediately, just as the tooth got sick. But to ease your condition, for a while you can always remove pain, even at home.

If you know which tooth caused anxiety, you first need to remove the traumatizing agent that causes toothache, clean the carious cavity of the foreign body, that is, from food residues with a dental floss or toothpick. Next, gently with a pair of tweezers, put a cotton ball on the bottom of the cavity, moisten it with drops of Denta, or with another means for anesthetizing.

With severe unbearable pain, you can take analgesics inside, 1-2 tablets. The safest drugs during pregnancy are drugs that work on the basis of paracetamol. But without control, it is impossible to take them to a pregnant woman for a long time, which means that we should limit ourselves to one-time reception whenever possible.

With periodontitis, that is, with inflammation of the gums, frequent rinsing with saline solutions, that is, solutions of salt and soda, will help. How to prepare a rinse solution? Here are a few recipes that help to treat during pregnancy, more precisely, to eliminate the primary toothache.
1) 1-2 teaspoons of salt and a half teaspoon of soda dissolve in a glass of warm water.
2) 3 or 4 tablets of furacilin dissolve in a glass of warm water.
3) 2-3 crystals of potassium permanganate dissolve also in a glass of warm water.
An excellent and effective effect rinses with a solution of chlorhexidine bigluconate. The aforementioned means disinfect and relieve inflammation.

To treat the pain of the teeth, it is strictly forbidden to use warming drugs. They can only hurt. Since the cause of toothache may well serve as acute purulent periodontitis, then with heat exposure, the purulent process can go into a diffuse form, in which the adjacent organs and tissues are involved, which becomes dangerous for the health of the child and the woman.

But all these measures should be taken only for initial treatment, they are temporary and do not completely solve the problem of the disease. Only the treatment of specialists and the correct definition of the disease will help get rid of toothache.

Dental treatment during pregnancy.

There is a fairly large number of dental clinics that operate around the clock. Just as you have a toothache, do not wait for the pain to decrease, contact a specialist: this will be the right decision for your baby and for you.

Any pathology of the dentoalveolar system, as well as tooth pain, regardless of the woman's pregnancy, requires immediate treatment by the dentist. But the treatment of a professional is a concern. The drugs used can have an adverse effect on the intrauterine development of the child.

Before beginning treatment, a woman must inform the dentist about pregnancy. This will allow the doctor to choose the most rational and safe therapy.

Drugs that are used for local anesthesia, most often have a short duration: for example, ultracaine and lidocaine are allowed to be used during pregnancy, because they do not penetrate the placental barrier, which means they are safe for the baby. And they are used in very small doses, about 2 ml, are quickly eliminated from the body. Drugs intended specifically for dental treatment are also safe for health, they will not harm a pregnant woman and her baby.

X-ray images of teeth are permissible during pregnancy only in case of emergency, the stomach must be covered, to prevent the effect of x-rays on the fetus, lead apron.

Before visiting a dentist, it is advisable to relieve nervous tension with valerian. To treat the teeth of a pregnant woman, especially in case of severe pain, it is necessary.

If you decide to visit the dentist on a routine basis, and not on an urgent need because of acute pain, then the treatment of teeth is better performed after 18 weeks of pregnancy - it is during this time that the placenta is fully formed and will be a barrier to the penetration of anesthetic and other dental products to the fetus.
