All about the breed Bordeaux dog

The Bordeaux dog is a formidable, service, guard dog. Known also under the names of the French mastiff and Bordeaux bulldog. In France, the breed was known for many centuries. Thanks to the French, all about the Bordeaux dog breed was recognized in all parts of the world.

History of origin

Bordeaux dog is a descendant of large Molossian dogs. Molosses, according to some authors, first lived in Molosia, a small ancient state that was located in the area of modern Western Greece and Albania. Many believe that the molasses originated from Assyrian fighting and hunting danes, which in Epirus fell at the end of the second millennium BC. e. After the Trojan War, thanks to King Pyrrhus.

There is also a group of ancestors of mastiffs - these are Alanian dogs. At the beginning of the fifth century AD, the barbarian tribe of the Alans took part in the grandiose resettlement of the peoples and, having entered into an alliance with the vandals, seized Spain. The tribe was accompanied by huge dogs, which they called Alans. Probably, these Alans were crossed with local dogs and as a result dogs appeared like Bordeaux danes.

In France, the ancestor of the French mastiff came from Roman legionaries.

In the Middle Ages, these dogs were used to protect cattle, castles, farms, and they were also trained to cooperate while hunting with a man (hunted at the time for bears, wolves, wild boars). Thus, the sphere of activity of the French mastiff expanded from bloodthirsty craft (canine battles, bullying of bulls) to peaceful economic craft.

Later in the province of Bordeaux during British rule these huge dogs were crossed with English bulldogs, who were brought here. So there was a known breed - the French mastiff.

The great revolution that was taking place in France had a detrimental effect on the breeding of the Bordeaux dog breed, only a small number of dogs could be kept just under the city of Bordeaux in the native province.

In 1862, an international dog show took place, at which the French bulldog won the prize. At the same time, this exhibition was the beginning of the conquest of the popularity of the Bordeaux danes.

In 1990, the Bordeaux dog got to Russia, where it was not popular, therefore has few fans. About the breed of Bordeaux mastiff began to speak after the appearance of the screen "Turner and Huch" - a feature film, where the bulldog played an eccentric and wayward assistant to a policeman, at the same time, remaining indispensable and kind.

Appearance of Bordeaux

This dog breed has a large, harmoniously built, squat, muscular body with thick skin, which forms a plethora of folds.

On a developed, short neck, a powerful head is planted, on which there are also folds of the skin. The mask is either completely absent, or of chestnut or black color.

Bordea eyes have an oval shape, a black mask. The color of the eyes varies from a nutty shade to a dark brown hue, a slightly lighter shade of irises is allowed.

The front edge of the ears is slightly raised, but the ears are hanging. The color of the ears is usually darker than the main color. The coat is dense and very short, close to the skin.

Typically, the representatives of Bordeaux are monophonic, but other shades are acceptable (for example, from the shade of mahogany to the tint of "Isabella").

Small patches of white can be placed on the fingers and chest and this is normal, but if such spots are present on the body, extremities, tail end, head, then this according to the breed standard prepares for a serious defect.

Psychological picture

Bordossy - loyal to the owner of the dog. With the owner and his family, the Bordeaux dog is very affectionate, but in relation to strangers can be unfriendly. Throughout his life the dog will remain faithful, not deceiving, not ingratiating friend.

Dogs of the Bordeaux dog breed are always aware of their abilities and strength, therefore they are able to remain calm, unshakable confidence and nobility. The French mastiff is filled with a sense of dignity and in combination with the fighting style creates a very unusual impression.

Bordossy are distinguished by being educated, deliberate actions, prudence. Bordossy is a very intelligent dog, civilized, not subject to various stresses. But if the people close to him or the house are attacked, then the bordess can give a formidable rebuff.

Bordeaux do not get along well with other dogs, which, according to some breeders, is a disadvantage of the breed. Of course, bordesses will not bark for no serious reason or participate in small dog quarrels, but they will not allow others to control the situation, but will show their superiority.
