Day of the angel: what is it customary to do?

What is a birthday, everyone knows from a young age. But for certain it is known that there is also the day of the angel. If a person who is not baptized can not have an angel, only at baptism God gives a person a disembodied angel. And by following your name and date of birth, you choose the day of your angel. For example, call you Natalia you have an Angel Day - September 8. On this day, Natalya's birthday party is celebrated. If it so happened that the day of the angel under the same name several times a year, then choose the day that is closer to your official birthday.

It's the day of the angel that is done. On this day, you must go to church in the morning and take communion. If you do not get to go to the temple, then pray to your guardian angel. Throughout life, he guards you and leads the way, unless of course you understand all his clues. On this day you can not swear, swear, and better do only good deeds.

Birthday day on this day it is necessary to present all kinds of gifts, souvenirs, to arrange a holiday. Gifts should be thought out in advance, based on the hobbies of the originator of the celebration. Surprise does not have to be expensive, the main thing is your attention to the birthday boy.

In our time, you rarely see people celebrating the day of the angel. In the old days this holiday was celebrated with all the splendor of the Russian spirit. On this day, baked pies, covered tables. Pies sent to relatives and friends, so that they eat them for the health of the birthday boy. Pies differed in size, depending on who they are sent to. The godmother and father were sent a sweet pie as a sign of sincere respect.

Guests who came to celebrate the day of the angel brought with them gifts and souvenirs. Father blessed with images, and civilians gave cuts of cloth, goblets, beautiful postcards with the image of a guardian angel. The children in turn presented the birthday boy angels made with their own hands.

The king's day passed somewhat differently, leaving the church the king distributed pies to everyone. The same thing did the queen. The prince who reached the age of majority also distributed pies himself. For the underage princes and young princesses, the king's birthday poured out pies. If the birthday boy was one of the boyars, they came with a bow to the king and presented the birthday cake. The king thanked the boyar, asked him about his health and congratulated him on his name day. Then the birthday boy represented his person to the queen and also offered her pies.

On the day of the king's angel, he was given various gifts. All the merchants sent to the tsar all kinds of presents, they were accepted at the royal court and immediately sold.

Celebration of the name-day of the king was very pompous, all sat down for the laid tables. Necessarily the choir sang many years, after the feast the king presented all the guests with expensive gifts. Then all the guests had fun, sang and danced.

Required attributes of the festive table were pies with various fillings: cabbage, meat, sweet stuffing, and also a pie with raisins. For this pie a special role was prepared at the celebration, it was broken over the head of the birthday boy, the whole filling was poured on him, and the guests at that moment said: "As raisins fall, so let all your life be golden and silver sprinkle you."

To this day, recipes came from birthday cakes: A glass of sugar, a packet of margarine, a tablespoon of sour cream or kefir, two eggs, one teaspoon of soda, one tablespoon of vinegar. All the ingredients are mixed until homogeneous, gradually add flour until the dough is soft and elastic. Cut the dough into two pieces, one bigger, the other smaller. Piece a little more on a baking sheet, from above to spread the sweet stuffing. In the remaining piece add more flour and mix a steeper dough. Then grate it on a grater and sprinkle on top of the open pie. Put in the oven for twenty minutes at a temperature of two hundred degrees.

If you do not know your angel's day, you can ask the priest in the church, he will tell you. I really want to renew the traditions of our great-grandfathers, and celebrate the name-day with all its inherent pomp.
