How to write a resume for a job?


Usually the first - and the only - reading of a resume takes no more than two minutes from a potential employer, and an experienced recruiter needs a quick look to decide whether your resume deserves more detailed consideration or not. About how to properly draw up a resume for a job and will be discussed below.

How can you make sure that your resume attracts attention? First of all, when you write it, you need to follow certain rules. Their implementation will allow you to count on the interest of the employer.

RULE FIRST: STRICT

Your resume, of course, should be different from others, but this does not mean that you can neglect the rules of business vocabulary. Do not try to surprise the employer - do not use in the text different fonts, colors and sizes of letters. Choose the black Times New Roman size of 12 or 14.

Helpful hint: leave wide margins next to the text. This move will please the employer, because it gives an opportunity to do when reading the notes. Do not forget also that you need to keep the intervals between the sections of the resume.

RULE II: Laconism

Remember the closest relative of talent. A perfect resume for employment should fit on one page, in rare cases - on two. If this requirement seems impossible, try looking at your resume with the eyes of the employer. Think about whether you really need to know about the certificates for active participation in the life of the school, your pets, or sewing and sewing courses that you graduated with excellence five years ago, unless, of course, it is directly related to the vacancy for which you pretend. Partly so it is, but, for example, from the list of your past jobs you can and should exclude those who are not directly related to the vacancy. It is not at all interesting for the employer to know that at the age of 15 you worked for a nanny of neighbor tomboy, and in the second year you gave private guitar lessons.

RULE THIRD: TRUTH

When writing a resume for a job, the temptation to gloss over a bit is particularly great, especially if the track record is not large yet, and the vacancy is very attractive. The paper will endure everything, but the question is, will it be tolerated by a potential employer? In other words, it is not necessary to mention computer programs in the curriculum that you only know about by hearsay, or possession of office technology that you will not be able to demonstrate at the interview. Do not ascribe excessive success to your previous job if you are not sure that if you apply to a potential employer, all of the above will be confirmed in full.

RULE FOUR: STRUCTURE

A competently and properly composed resume necessarily involves division into parts.

1. Personal and contact information

The word "resume" does not need to be written; instead, it is better to indicate the last name, first name and patronymic. And place next words "surname, name, patronymic", too, there is no need.

Indicate all the phones that you can be contacted and the email address. At the same time, do not force the employer to guess which of the phones is mobile, which one is working, and for which you can only be found late at night. Be sure to specify everything yourself.

Substantial trifle: the e-mail address specified in the contact information section must correspond to the address from which you sent the resume.

The exact age can not be called: an experienced recruiter will be able to determine how old you are, being guided by the date of graduation from the university or the beginning of work. Information on the marital status and the presence / absence of children is not mandatory for placement in the resume, but be prepared for the employer to ask about this at the interview.

2. Purpose

Be sure to indicate which vacancy or at least the field of activity you are applying for. At the same time, remember that the formulation of your interests must meet one or two sentences, avoid blurred phrases like "I'm looking for a highly paid job in the specialty".

3. Education

In the reverse chronological order, list the full names of the educational institutions with the indication of the faculties and specialties received. Be sure to indicate the start and end dates of the training, otherwise the employer may get the impression that you are still learning.

It is not out of place to mention the diploma with distinction and the presence of a scientific degree. But the title of the thesis should be written only in case it is directly related to the vacancy you are interested in.

Important addition: in this section you can and need to indicate the names of the courses, seminars and trainings on which you studied (of course, taking into account their direct connection with the work you are applying for).

4. Work experience

This is the most important and meaningful section of the resume. Here, in the reverse order, work places should be registered for the last 6-8 years (indicating the positions, with a detailed description of duties, with a listing of real achievements). At the same time, remember: the employer is not interested in the process of your past work activity, but in its concrete results. In other words, instead of "fulfilling duties according to the position held" it will be correct to indicate which projects you implemented and what profit the enterprise has received with your help. You can also mention that you were promoted and assigned a higher salary.

5. Additional information

This section includes information not included in the "Education" and "Work Experience", and their scope can be very broad. However, limit yourself to enumeration of those professional skills that will help you to bow to the scales. Here you can indicate the degree of proficiency in foreign languages, list computer programs that you are well aware of, and types of office equipment with which you are actively working. In general, use this section in order to once again draw the employer's attention to your strengths.

6. Personal qualities

This is the most uninformative section for the employer, and therefore make it as tight as possible. Do not praise yourself, but do not point out the shortcomings. Instead, highlight some special quality that will once again confirm your professionalism and profitably distinguish you from other job seekers.

7. Recommendations

They do not have to be attached to the resume for recruitment, as well as indicate the coordinates of those persons who can recommend you to a potential employer. However, be ready to provide them at the request of the employer and warn your sponsors that they can be called and ask a few questions about you and your professional knowledge and skills.

FINISHING TOUCH

Carefully review the summary several times before you send. Even the most insignificant mistake will not be in your favor. But with a properly written resume when hiring you will have a much better chance of finding a job.
