Indoor plants: hamedorea

The mountain palm of the Hamedorei family has about one hundred and thirty species of plants. Hamedorei belongs to the family of arecids. However, in nature there are interspecies hybrids. These plants are common in Central America, Mexico, South America.

The mountain palm of the genus Hamedoraea grows in the form of shrubs or low trees. Their trunks are usually thin and straight, but they are also annular bamboo-like. At the same time from the trunk depart numerous offspring one or two meters long and up to three centimeters in diameter. The appendages are usually single, sometimes curly. The leaves of the palm are narrowly lanceolate and broad. They often have a pointed shape and are directed downward from the base. In tree-like palms, the leaves are most often located at the very tip of the trunk and have a pinnate structure. And the bush grows along the entire trunk. For the palm of the genus Hamedori, a narrowly ligated, cylindrical-shaped petiole is characteristic. The length is usually 30-75 cm. The inflorescence is formed below the leaves, i.e. axillary. In addition, it is simple or paniculate. Another feature is small flowers. Palms of the genus Hamedorei belong to the dioecious plants, i.e. plants, in which the male and female flowers are not located on the same individual, but on different ones.

Honey plants can grow well at home, if they are properly cared for. And sometimes with the help of artificial pollination it is possible to achieve even flowering palms. It will be very beautiful, if you plant hamedores with pinnate leaves in large quantities in one pot.

Care of the plant

Lighting. Since house plants do not require a lot of sunlight, they can be grown in rooms on windows facing the north side. However, the hamedoroya is very fond of a large space, so it is better to drop it into a bulk dish near the window facing east or west. To keep the leaves from turning yellow and not falling off, it's important not to leave them in direct sunlight, especially in summer. You can either plant the plant a little farther from the window, or curtain the window, for example with a tulle curtain.

Temperature regime. Palma needs fresh air regardless of the season. In the spring-summer period, it is important to keep it at a temperature of 20 ° C to 26 ° C. In winter, the palm feels great even with room contents, provided that the temperature is between 16 ° C and 18 ° C. The plant can tolerate a lower temperature, but not below 12 ° C.

Watering. During the active life of the plant, its vegetation, it is extremely necessary to water abundantly with soft, if possible, water. It is important to ensure that the substrate does not dry out. For the winter, watering should be reduced. Water with warm water, about 30 degrees. When the top layer of the earth dries, then you can water the palm. It turns out, approximately, every two to three days it is necessary to give the plant "drink". In addition, during this period it is important not to allow both a lack and an excess of moisture in the earth coma.

Air humidity. Humidity for a hamedoray should be at least 50%. In the summer period, it is better to sprinkle daily with mild, preferably standing water. The plant will always delight your eyes, if in addition to watering, at least every 14 days, wash or wipe the leaves with a damp sponge. Do not forget about the daily airing of the room. In winter, spraying is best either completely stopped, or it is rarely done, and the leaves are wiped only once a month.

Fertilizing hamedoria with mineral fertilizer also depends on the season. From spring to autumn, it will be good to feed it weekly, and in winter feeding can be reduced to once every three weeks.

Transfer. Transplant young plants better every year. But adult plants living in pots, enough to replant once in three or four years, depending on the pot filling roots; plants living in tubs, it is enough to transplant approximately once in five years. The best pottery for planting a palm will be a three-dimensional pot. It is better not to transplant a plant too often. End the transplant before the beginning of the summer. After transplanting, the plant is advised to keep the plant in the shade for the first time. Instead of transplanting, you can change the top layer of the soil every year, doing this very carefully, so as not to damage the roots.

For plant transplantation it is best to use weakly acidic earth, which includes such components: one part of heavy soddy land, one part humus, one part peat and one part sand. At the bottom of the pot lay a good drainage.

Bloom. Hamedoraea - plants that can bloom at different times of the year, subject to proper care. The flowers of the palm are usually orange-red. They are a loose inflorescence-panicle. Because chameleons - dioecious plants, it is more difficult to obtain their seeds than to achieve flowering. Women's flowers differ from men's in that they smell, but men's ones do not practically smell. While the plant is young, its panicles are advised to cut off the inflorescence, because flowering needs a lot of energy.

Reproduction. These houseplants multiply by offspring and seeds.

If you plant fresh seeds and store them so that the temperature fluctuates between 22 ° C and 25 ° C, they will germinate within 30-40 days.

Few palm trees can be propagated vegetatively and hamedorei - one of them. To achieve this, it is necessary to use radical offspring. Do not need to rush to separate them until they have several of their roots. One pot should be planted at once several sprouts (for example, 3-4 sprouts).
