Methods of treatment of uterine myoma

Methods of treatment of uterine fibroids women often assume surgery, especially if the tumor is intensively growing and causes suffering. Modern methods can save a woman from fibroids, without removing the uterus.

Because of fear to hear from the doctor the unpleasant news about his health, many women have not visited a gynecologist for years. It is preferable for them to remain in ignorance, even if they suffer from pain, bleeding and other unpleasant symptoms. The most frightening possibility is surgical intervention, which can cause significant damage to their femininity. To do this, use various methods of treatment of uterine myomas - from hormone therapy to classical cavitary operations: myomectomy and hysterectomy (partial or complete removal of the uterus). Such operations involve general anesthesia, lasting several hours, autopsy, as well as long-term rehabilitation. Modern minimally invasive methods of treatment of uterine myomas - laparoscopy and embolization of arteries - exclude many risks and minimize losses.

Decipher the diagnosis

Fibromioma (myoma, leiomyoma) is a benign tumor that develops in the muscular tissue of the uterus. It is believed that this education can be found almost every second woman. The question is, how much fibroids are active. Sometimes she does not show herself at all (the myomatous nodule is small and does not interfere with the natural functioning of the uterus). If the tumor prevents the uterus from contracting (for example, during menstruation), causes profuse bleeding or painful sensations during sexual intercourse, moreover, it increases in size, then the question arises of the operation. Detect fibroids during ultrasound, probing or hysteroscopy (examination with an optical device that is inserted into the vagina). If, when examining you on an armchair, the doctor suspected myoma and offered an additional examination - agree. The method of treatment of uterine fibroids and with the help of palpation can be unmistakably detected only large nodes.

Do I need to get rid of it?

The emergence and growth of fibroids contribute to various factors: uncontrolled use of hormonal contraceptives, promiscuous sex life or complete absence of it, stresses and excessive loads, unfavorable external factors.

Myoma can increase with an increase in the level of female sex hormones estrogen (during pregnancy, the onset of menopause). The tumor can not only cause profuse bleeding (which leads to the development of anemia), but also provoke back pain, frequent urination, problems with the intestines. If a woman is rarely shown to the doctor, the myoma can reach a large size - there are cases when surgeons extracted a tumor weighing five or more kilograms.

Minimally invasive operations

The simple and harmless method of treating uterine fibroids seems to be hormonotherapy. Initially, a decrease in the level of estrogen really inhibits the growth of the node or reduces it, but after hormone cancellation everything can resume. In addition, hormones have a number of side effects. Therefore, surgical removal of the neoplasm is considered more effective. Today, minimally invasive methods of treating uterine myomas are widely used, for example, laparoscopy, in which the node is harvested without opening the abdominal cavity. A laparoscope is inserted into it on a small tube, to which a video camera and a light source are connected. The image of the internal organs is transmitted to the video monitor and the surgeon clearly sees the operating field. Small punctures produced by such interventions minimally injure muscle tissue. The patient practically does not experience pain after the operation and returns home in a few days. After 2-3 weeks a woman can return to the usual way of life.

Hysteroscopy also applies to endoscopic operations. The doctor uses an ultrathin instrument equipped with optics, which is injected through the natural openings of the body. Removal of small myomas occurs through the cervical canal.

Overlapping "oxygen"

For more than ten years in developed countries (in recent years and in Ukraine) for methods of treating uterine fibroids, surgeons are actively using uterine artery embolization (EMA). According to statistics, about 98 percent of these operations are successful and myoma does not recur.

During surgery, a femoral artery is drilled through a special needle and a thin catheter is conducted to the arteries that supply blood to myomas. They are clogged with tiny plastic particles - emboli. The blood supply of myoma stops, and it ceases to grow. First, the tumor decreases 2-3 times, and then within half a year partially resolves. The procedure lasts from 40 minutes to 1.5 hours. After surgery, prescribe pain medication and a sparing regimen for the rehabilitation period (about a month).

According to the testimony

You also need to know that there are contraindications to both laparoscopy and EMA. That the doctor has made the decision on this or that kind of intervention, inspection is required. If you have doubts, and you think that a radical operation can be avoided, go to another specialist or to another clinic where there is an appropriate base and qualified surgeons who possess modern techniques. Anyway, you choose and search, and the final decision is made by the doctor, proceeding from a concrete situation. Perhaps, in your case, the use of minimally invasive methods will not be enough, especially if the doctor has to deal with neglected neoplasm. That is why it is so important to visit the gynecologist regularly to identify the disease at the earliest stage.
