Motherwort is a genus of the family of the clear-eyed, in which plants are two-year-olds and perennials. They reach no more than 30 centimeters in height, rarely grow to 1.5 meters. On the features of the structure can be seen on the photo of the herb Leonurus, since there are several different species with branched and straight trunks, slightly different structures of leaves. For all species are characterized by small "prickly" fruits in the form of nuts. With the help of sharp teeth they cling to the animal's fur or people's clothing and thus spread through the territory.

The plant is spread throughout Ukraine, Belarus, European and Asian parts of Russia and elsewhere. Motherwort is surprisingly unpretentious, therefore grows in any climatic zones, except, perhaps, hot and arctic deserts.

Motherwort: medicinal properties

Not all types of motherwort have healing properties. Among dozens of varieties, only two deserve to be used in treatment - heartwyrder cardiac and five-lobed (hairy). Due to its pronounced sedative properties and a large set of useful elements, the plant became super popular in folk medicine and was recognized by professional medics. It is used in many medicines and has the effect similar to valerian, therefore it is used mainly for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, nervous system, less often for getting rid of GIT diseases.

Motherwort contains vitamins A and C, flavonoids, glycosides, essential oils, tannins and other minerals.

Motherwort: recipes of folk medicine

There are 3 main forms of taking Leonurus: in the form of a tincture on alcohol, on water, powder form. There is a fourth pill, but you can not produce them yourself, but they are sold in pharmacies.

The properties of the motherwort are such that they help to calm the nervous system, help with sleep disorders. In addition, the plant showed itself well in the treatment of epilepsy, pancreatitis, cardiovascular system.

Recipe 1: water tincture

The standard is the simplest and most affordable recipe, especially recommended for those who do not tolerate alcohol, breastfeeding mothers and children.

Preparation and use:

  1. 2 tsp. Raw two cups of boiling water and cover the dishes tightly, leaving to stand at room temperature for 3-4 hours;
  2. You need to use tincture 30-40 minutes before meals 3 times a day for 50 milliliters for 2-3 months.

Recipe 2: tincture on alcohol

The recipe is suitable for adults and is considered the most effective, however it is prepared long enough.

Preparation and use:

  1. 1/5 part of the grass is filled with 4/5 parts of vodka, after which the dishes are tightly closed and insisted in a dark place for 25-30 days;
  2. Every day 1-2 times a month the mixture must be shaken;
  3. Use tincture of 5-7 drops, diluted with a teaspoon of boiled water 3 times a day for 30 minutes before eating for 2 months.

Motherwort: contraindications

When taking this plant should always consult with a doctor, as there are individual contraindications and allergic reaction. In addition, to abandon the infusions of the core should be pregnant women and during lactation. Do not use grass while driving or working, requiring extreme concentration and attention.
