The healing and magical properties of azurite

Azurite - "mountain" or "copper blue", as it was called in ancient times - is very much in tune with the name of a completely different mineral - lapis lazuli, a stone of rich dark blue color, incredibly expensive in the east. It is because of this consonance that the ancient Greek scholar Aristotle described the properties of these two completely different stones under the same name. From here also there was such confusion.

A little later it turned out that such a similarity of names is explained by the origin of the same Persian word, which is literally translated as "blue", and in lapis lazuli, the first letter "l" means the article. Finally, this confusion was resolved by the mineralogist F. Bedan, a Frenchman who classified these two minerals as having nothing in common with each other.

Azurite is mined in Morocco, in France, but the largest and most expensive crystals are found in Namibia, in a field called Theumeb. There the native stones reach 25 cm in length! The extraction is carried out both in East Kazakhstan and our deposit in the South Urals, but there the azurite stones are usually a few fan-shaped crystals. Crystals themselves are not very significant, but they are rightfully proud of their excellent quality.

Azurite - one of the few natural crystals, painted in such a bright and rich blue color. Such crystals are actually in nature - a great rarity, so it is not surprising that collectors and lovers very much appreciate the azurite.

By the way, in the Middle Ages quite often the masters of the brush used this mineral for their paintings, adding it to the paint and thus obtaining an incredibly beautiful shade of blue. However, this stone has the property of gradually moving into a more stable chemical compound - in malachite. And, as you know, malachite is green. Thus, the blue colors on canvases of old paintings often turn green.

Azurite can always be distinguished from other minerals by conducting a simple qualitative reaction. Only this bright blue mineral has the property of boiling in hydrochloric acid.
