The role of a name in a person's life

What question do we ask, after we find out whether the girl was born into a family or a boy? It's true: "What was the name?" Why is it important for us? Because we know that the name has great significance in human life. But what kind?

The name is a kind of answer to the question "what am I?" and most importantly "who am I?". Ask the little child: "Who are you?" - and he, most likely, will answer: "I am a boy", or "I am Kolya". The future life of each person in the greater part determines his sex, but his name in this process is not the last value. It allows the child to psychologically perceive himself as a person, which is an important factor in development. Therefore, our ancestors assigned a special role to the name in human life.

In ancient times it was believed that the name predetermines fate. Until the 17th century in Russia the real name of the child up to a certain age was hidden by his parents. To address the children used affectionate names and nicknames. This was done for the purpose of trying to deceive evil spirits and the Angel of Death, who sometimes came to the kids.

It was not customary to give the child the name of one of the inhabitants of the house. People believed that this could lead to the death of the helper, whose vital forces would then pass to the newborn. If a person died early, then in the village no one gave his children the name of the deceased, because it was believed that the child could be transferred to someone else's unhappy fate.

If a person changes his name, he changes his destiny. Therefore, a person who decided to go to a monastery and take tonsure, refuses both worldly life and the worldly name. The person's surname is his connection with the family, the patronymic is his family, but the name gives him a protector and patron.

According to the English psychotherapist Trevor Weston, there is a direct connection between the child's name and his fears, complexes, and emerging character. For example, people whose names are rare or dissonant, are more likely to be mocked and attacked by their peers in childhood. And American researchers found a regularity in the assessment of college teachers by students with certain names. Girls with beautiful names, as a rule, do not achieve success in promotion and in business in general, but they have a great chance to get into the show business.

It is known that every name has its own meaning, which determines the character of a person. For example, according to the results of the research, the name "Tatiana" in the majority is subconsciously associated with red color, with danger, anxiety and aggression. Therefore, the bearers of this name often show aggression, which often leads to the fact that "Tatyana", growing up, have an imperious, rugged, assertive character. But the name "Elena" in the subjects called associations with a blue color, with femininity, submission and gentleness. Therefore, the reaction of behavior with them was appropriate, and as a result girls with this name grew in more comfortable psychological conditions.

The perception of a name is also affected by its phonetic sound. For example, in Russian names one rarely encounters the letter "Ч", and the letters "Y", "Y" and a soft sign spoil it. However, such phonetics is inherent to Russian names - for example, in English traditions, children are often called "Charles" or "Richard" and, as a rule, nothing bad happens with such children.

In any case, if the given name for some reason does not suit you, then according to the legislation of many CIS countries, you can change your name. However, think twice - the Jews believe that by changing your name, you break off the connection with your parents.
