Cramps of a different nature in the child

Convulsions of a different nature in a small child are a common phenomenon, and pediatricians claim that their appearance at an extremely tender age is only one of many characteristics of childhood. Let's look at this issue: what is convulsions, what are they, how dangerous can they become for a baby and what cases require urgent medical help?

So, the medical guide tells us that a spasm is an involuntary and absolutely unexpected reduction of any muscle (or muscle group). The nature of the seizures is determined by which muscle is involved. If all groups are affected, then such cramps are usually called general (second, narrower name - generalized). If, however, the convulsions of a child compresses only one muscle / one group - then this convulsions are local. With a common terminology, we briefly figured out, now let's talk about the first aid that should be provided in case of occurrence of seizures of a different nature in the child.

Common cramps in the child

General convulsions in the child, in the first place, are dangerous because of a sharp increase in injuries during muscle contractions. After all, the child will not be able to control his body until he stops various cramps. Therefore, the first thing you should do if the baby's cramps have begun is to protect it, do not let any injuries occur. When there is a cramp - the baby can fall, so do not move away from it, but it is best to immediately put it on the bed or on the floor. Under the head should be a pillow so that the child does not hit the floor. If possible - stand on your knees and yourself hold the child's head - this method is much more reliable.

Also, the danger, albeit indirect, may be in the objects that surround the baby. It is necessary to remove from him all that he could hit or hurt himself. So, if, when the convulsions began, the child lay in his wooden crib - it is necessary to get it out from there and put it on a soft sofa, wrapping it around with something soft, so that in case of its turning it does not hit the wall or the life.

After you are convinced that the child's location is completely safe, take care of his clothes. She should not cause the slightest inconvenience, restrict movement, interfere with the breathing of the baby. So, if it was tightly wrapped, you need to remove diapers from it, if the clothes have belts, buttons or fasteners - all accessories must be unbuttoned and relaxed.

Open all the windows in the room - the child must be supplied with fresh air. If this is not possible within the framework of this room - take it to a balcony or street (if, of course, circumstances allow it).

After the cramps are over, you need to turn the baby on the barrel, do not move away from it until you are convinced that the child is again in consciousness. If the onset of seizures is preceded by a large body temperature - give the crumb an antipyretic, otherwise convulsions can begin again.

Local convulsions in the child

There are two types of local seizures, which are extremely common not only in children, but also in adults. Most often we are irritated by cramps of calf muscles. And if a child writes for a long time, he writes a lot - he can be grabbed by "writing spasm" - contractions of the muscles of the brush, caused by constant tension in connection with prolonged hard work.

Of course, if your child often has seizures of a similar nature, then it is better to show it to the doctor, but if the convulsions begin - this does not mean that you need to call an ambulance - they usually go by themselves.

Helping a child during a local convulsion can and should be done to alleviate the unpleasant sensations. The principle is this: it is necessary to perform an action that would stretch the muscle contracted by the spasm. For example, if this is the "writing spasm" mentioned above, then ask the child to spread the finger and press it on any flat surface (it can be either a table or a wall). If the gastrocnemius has been brought down - put your foot in a horizontal position and bend the ankle joint - in other words, try to reach the head with your fingertips. If suddenly the spasm unexpectedly brought the muscle down, when you bathed in the pond - you need to act the same way, only more quickly. In addition, the leg should first be maximally bent in the knee, pulling it to the chin, and then grab the toes - and pull to the head.

After this, the muscle, crammed with a spasm, you need to thoroughly massage, relax, and put something warm on the convulsed place. You can simply put your foot in the bathroom, apply a heating pad or a compress.

Of course, parents, whose children often suffer from seizures of a different nature, want to know whether there are any special methods that would help prevent the emergence of this trouble. However, unfortunately, such methods do not exist. It is possible that they are simply not investigated - but the fact remains.

Be vigilant, especially when you go to the sea. You probably know that the spasm of the calf muscle can reduce the leg in the event that after a hot afternoon sun the child immediately jumps into the still unheated cool water. Explain to him that it is dangerous that you need to step in gradually, and do not jump immediately from high berths (in principle, you can not jump from the docks - but can you prove it to the boys?). Explain it not from the point of view that the cramp is just painful and unpleasant - you need to talk about the direct danger to life, because cramps prevent a person from swimming. Even an adult and strong man can drown if a sudden cramp in his water suddenly leads to a severe cramp. The child must know this. And, of course, always closely monitor your babies, who are still so small that they can not fully realize not even the consequences of seizures, but the very concept itself. Such babies should always be under parental control, so that in case of a dangerous situation you can quickly help the child by restraining the cramp.

If the child very often grabs - before a trip to the sea consult a doctor, he will give you individual recommendations on how to behave in order to minimize the likelihood of the appearance of seizures.
