Harmful products during pregnancy

If you adore sushi and soft varieties of cheese, if you can not live without carpaccio, then you just need to adjust the diet for the period of pregnancy and during the breastfeeding period. Harmful foods during pregnancy, that's what we'll talk about today.

Sushi

Raw seafood can contain parasites, such as tapeworms, which, penetrating the body of a pregnant woman, feed on those substances that are necessary for the developing fetus. They can even lead to premature birth through their harmful effects. The Office of Food and Drug Administration strongly recommends that sushi restaurants freeze fish products before using it to prepare various dishes. This is extremely necessary for the destruction of parasites.

According to doctors, most restaurants that care about their reputation, produce high quality sushi. But is it worth it to risk your own health and the health of a future child?

Beyond the ban: Vegetarian sushi.

A fish

Fish and seafood contain the necessary nutrients, such as protein and omega-3 fatty acids. They are important for the health of the heart and the development of the child's brain. They can be part of a healthy diet during pregnancy. But at the same time, almost all fish species contain phosphorus, mercury, metals, which in high concentrations can harm the baby.

According to doctors, consumption of 35 grams per week of fish and seafood with low phosphorus content will help prevent premature birth. Avoid following seafood with a high content of phosphorus: royal mackerel, shark, swordfish.

Beyond the ban: Eat catfish, saithe, salmon, shrimp and tuna, preserved in its own juice.

Soft cheeses

Unpasteurized soft cheeses, known as "raw milk", or "paired" cheeses, are a favorite haven for listeria, a bacterium that causes listeriosis, an infection that can cause irreparable harm to the baby's body. Blue cheese, brie, camembert, feta, goat cheese, roquefort fall into a group of unwanted and even harmful foods during pregnancy for use by a future mother.

According to doctors, most of the cheeses that are sold in stores are made from pasteurized milk, which is dangerous for a pregnant woman. When visiting restaurants, be sure to inquire about the ingredients that make up the dishes, especially the presence of pasteurized cheeses in them.

Beyond the ban: Solid cheeses such as cheddar, gouda, parmesan and some others.

Meat gastronomy

Now that you are "in position" and expect the baby to be born, you should not eat chilled meat, ready-to-eat, for example, turkey ham, hot dogs, blood sausage. These products may contain a health hazard listeria.

According to doctors, ready-made meat products should be stored no more than one day. Before eating, these dishes must be thoroughly heated. But no pates and any raw or undercooked meat!

Beyond the ban: Now you are shown well-cooked meat or poultry. Canned meat is not on the list of forbidden dishes.

Raw eggs

Products containing raw eggs, including raw pastry dough, traditional Caesar salad dressing, homemade ice cream, Tiramisu cake and some Dutch sauces, can be contaminated with salmonella. This bacterium causes vomiting, diarrhea and, as a result, dehydration of the body. And this is only a minimum of problems that can create poisoning with raw eggs.

According to doctors, in no case can lick the spoon during the preparation of the pastry for biscuits, omelettes.

Beyond the ban: Caesar dressing - it does not have raw eggs, and in the salad itself - hard boiled eggs.

A weakened immune system increases the risk of infection of pregnant women by 20 times.

Attention: Listeria!

Listeria is a rare but dangerous bacterium that can be contained in unpasteurized milk, soft types of cheeses, hot dogs, seafood, pates, poultry, fish and shellfish. It can be destroyed with good cooking, but it feels great in the fridge and even in the freezer. Symptoms of infection can be fever, chills, muscle pain, nausea, or vomiting, which are found both within a few days, and within a few weeks after consuming infected products. Antibiotics are prescribed for treatment. Left untreated, infection can lead to premature birth, or even lead to loss of the fetus.
