How to help your child prepare homework

One of the important elements of school life is homework. There is no hassle if a child can organize himself without the help of adults. But this phenomenon is a rarity. Parents, of course, want to help their child. But how to help the child prepare homework so that it does not have any negative consequences?

According to the study, when parents participate in the process of doing homework, the result can be either positive or negative. On the one hand, parents accelerate the learning process, make it clear that learning is important, and also show their interest in the child. But on the other hand, help can sometimes get in the way. For example, a child may get confused by the explanations of parents, because they can apply the teaching technique, which differs from the technique of the teacher.

Mom and Dad should be interested in the events taking place in the school. In this way, relationships can be improved in the family, and parents will know exactly what is happening in the classroom with the child, as in his case at school.

If the child has problems at school, then it is very important to monitor the performance of the homework. Below are some practical tips to help your child cope with tasks:

  1. The child should have a separate place where he will perform homework. Such a place should be quiet and have good lighting. During the execution of tasks, you should not allow the child to sit in front of the TV or in a room where there is a lot of distraction.
  2. It should be ensured that all materials for the assignment in the child are available: pens, paper, pencils, textbooks, dictionaries. It is worth asking, maybe a child needs something else.
  3. It is necessary to teach the child to plan. For example, it is necessary to determine the specific time in which the child will perform homework. At the last minute, you should not leave execution. If the task is large by volume, then it is advisable to do it in the first half of the day off, and not postpone the evening of the day that precedes the day with the lesson.
  4. The atmosphere around homework should be positive. It is worth telling the child that the school is important. The child takes over the attitude to things, looking at his parents.
  5. You can try to do the same activity as a child. Thus, parents will show how what he learns is applied in practice. If the child reads, then you can also read the newspaper. If the child does the math, then you can count (for example, utility bills).
  6. If the child asks for help, then help me, but this does not mean that you have to fulfill the task for the child. If you just say the right answer, then the child will not learn anything. So a child can get used to that in difficult situations, always someone will do all the work for him.
  7. If the teacher has informed that the task should be performed jointly with the parents, then it is not necessary to refuse. So the child can be shown that the school and home life are connected.
  8. If the child must perform the work independently, then there is no need to help. If parents give too much help in their studies, the child does not learn to be independent, he learns less. And such skills will be necessary to him later in his adult life.
  9. Regularly it is worth talking to the teachers. Keep track of homework, as parents need to understand the purpose of the assignment, and the child has learned the skills that were required to be planted.
  10. It is necessary to learn to understand the differences between complex and simple tasks. It is better to start with complex tasks. During this period the child is at the peak of attention. Then, when the child is already tired, he will easily make simple tasks and will be able to go on vacation.
  11. It is worth paying attention to the state of the child. If you see that he is experiencing difficulties, gets upset and annoyed, then you should offer him a break, and then start the tasks with new forces.
  12. Good results should be encouraged. If the child works productively, then it should be encouraged. For example, you can buy a favorite treat or go to an entertaining event.
