Introduction of complementary foods for children under one year of age

At what age should infants have to switch from breast milk to supplementary feeding? According to the recommendation of the World Health Organization (WHO), the introduction of complementary foods for children under one year can begin with a half-year of life. Until then, breast milk is essential for the normal development of children. But for the further development of the body requires additional nutrition, more diverse and nutritious. The introduction of complementary foods begins, on the appointment of a pediatrician, from six months. In this period, the lure can be called pedagogical rather than full.

In some cases, the introduction of complementary foods should be postponed for a certain time: if the temperature in the house is raised or the child suffers a disease, or the intestines of the baby are upset, the temperature is increased. Half-year-old children with the occurrence of certain diseases (anemia, rickets, other conditions) and children up to six months, the introduction of complementary foods is produced with artificial or mixed feeding. Usually such deviations from complementary foods are appointed by the district pediatrician. At the beginning of the introduction of complementary foods, the necessary food is given to the child before it is applied to the breast. Then the complementary portions increase until it completely replaces breastfeeding. After the baby is accustomed to new food, you can enter the next - a thicker, and then dense food, thereby accustoming the child to chew.

Below we present the table of introduction of complementary feeding for babies, which does not contradict the recommendations of WHO. We remind you that this table is indicative and does not replace the individual mode of feeding the child. From this table you can start off by introducing a lure for the baby. Every child has an appetite, features of digestion. For those kids who are on artificial or mixed feeding, the beginning of introduction of complementary foods comes at an earlier time. In such cases, it is strongly recommended that you contact the pediatrician.

First lure

It is best to use vegetable puree at first. It is especially suitable for those babies who were born with insufficient body weight, prematurely, suffering from rickets, diathesis, anemia. In addition, it is better to start with vegetable puree also because, with the introduction of other products, babies from puree do not refuse. There is a possibility that if you start the first lure for a child up to a year with fruit porridge or mashed potatoes, then the vegetable kid can completely refuse or eat with reluctance.

To make vegetable puree, use potatoes, turnips, carrots - i.e. such products that do not contain coarse fiber. Prepare food for complementary foods for a couple or use a small amount of water to store more minerals in the vegetables. When the vegetables are cooked, wipe them through a sieve, mix, add very little salt, half egg yolk and warmed expressed breast milk or boiled water (about a third or a quarter of the cooked mashed potatoes).

Industrial food produces a variety of canned vegetables and fruit puree for baby food. It can be used as the first complementary food. In this case, it is necessary to give preference to baby food, released in winter or spring, because they collected more vitamins than you can collect and cook at home.

Starting the lure, give your baby 10 grams of mashed potatoes (2 teaspoons). In this case, watch his chair - if the disorder is not observed, then you can increase the amount of complementary foods. Gradually, feeding will supplant the breastfeeding of the baby.

Second Lure

It can be started at the age of 7 months of the baby. To start the second lure follows with milk porridge 5-8% fat, then you can go to 10% if the child does not have an allergic reaction. If it still occurs, go on to prepare cereals on a dairy-free basis, on the water. It is best to use buckwheat or oatmeal. Manna porridge does not have rich minerals, so it is not worth it to start lure. There are various cereals from ready-mixed cereals, intended for baby food. Use them, as well as special children's flour from oatmeal (oatmeal).

Begin the lure of cereals, like mashed potatoes, with 1-2 teaspoons, gradually replacing another breastfeeding. With rind you can give diluted juice, cottage cheese or puree from fruit.

In porridge, you can put up to 5 grams of butter, when the baby reaches 7.5 - 8 months of age. But during this period it is still necessary to give the baby breast milk in the morning and before night sleep.

At the age of seven months, the child can also be given extra low-fat meat broth (20-30 ml) and bread crumb (preferably white). Broth and breadcrumb is better to "give out" along with egg yolk, rubbed with apple or vegetable puree. You can cook soup puree instead of broth and mashed potatoes. You can also add minced meat from low-fat meats of 10 grams to vegetable purees. The amount of meat is gradually increased: by the eighth to the ninth month - to 30 grams per day, by the twelve month - to 60 grams.

For one feeding, the average total volume of food is about 200 grams.

The third lure

Breastfeeding for the eighth month of a child's life is gradually replaced with kefir. Breast milk should be given to the baby at this age only in the morning and in the evening.

Soon the baby's nutrition for up to a year becomes more and more diverse. At the age of 10 months, meat and fish meatballs, steamed meatballs, steamed meat and minced meat are introduced into the diet. It will be useful to include poultry, liver and brains in food. From seven months, except for crackers, you can also give a cookie, which is good to combine with mother's milk (otherwise overconsumption of carbohydrates is possible). Berries and fruits are best used fresh, Kiseli babies are too early to give.
