1. Make the dough. Whisk butter, sugar and orange peel in a bowl with a mixer. Add a lightly beaten egg and mix. Gradually add flour, baking powder and salt and beat until smooth. Put the dough on a sheet of waxed paper or polyethylene, wrap and place in a freezer for 10-20 minutes. 2. Cut the plums in half, remove the bones and cut them in half again. Peel apples from peel, cores and cut into small pieces. Preheat the oven to 175 degrees. Lubricate the cake pan. Mix plums and apples with sugar, cinnamon and orange juice in a bowl. Gently mix all ingredients together, once or twice, and put into a prepared form. 3. Roll the dough on a well-floured surface and lay it over top of the filling, forming a neat canopy. Lubricate the dough with milk or cream with a brush, sprinkle with sugar and bake the cake for 40 minutes, until lightly golden on top. 4. Put the cake on a large dish, allow to cool to room temperature, cut into slices and serve with whipped cream.
