The reason for the sharp rise in price of buckwheat is simple. Poor harvest and enterprising retailers. In 2011, there was also a sharp increase in the cost of a kilogram of buckwheat. Then the take-off of the price was caused by drought, as a result of which the agricultural enterprises managed to collect half the harvest less than in previous years. At the same time, from 2004 and 2010, Russia did not import this crop in general. Nevertheless, experts of the FAS then agreed that retailers intentionally held the product in order to create a rush demand.
How will the rise in price of buckwheat affect the value of other goods
Following the rise in price of buckwheat, prices for cereals will inevitably rise. So the modern economy is arranged: if the price for a product rises, then the substitutes start to go up faster. In addition, experts have already noted the rise in price of durum wheat. This means that soon the price of bread and pasta will rise. True, not so much, but will grow.
According to the forecasts of the Ministry of Economic Development, this year 10-15% inflation is expected. So, despite the righteous efforts of the antimonopoly service, the price increase for goods in Russia will continue. Food will also grow in price. True, the speculative price of buckwheat rose so high that we should expect a decline rather than growth. But the cost of other products will only grow. Rice, millet, pasta, according to experts, will grow in price by 20%, and possibly more.
