The word "polka" in Czech means a half step. The fast pace of dance movements requires sharpness, clarity and agility, and thus makes the moves small and fast. Because of the consonance of the dance with the name of the country, many people in Poland think that it is this state that is the birthplace of the dance, but it is not so. Polka appeared almost two hundred years ago in the Bohemian province of Bohemia. Due to its rapid execution, she turned the head of people of different social status, and without this magical action it was difficult to imagine a solemn event, whether it was social celebrations or folk. The popularity of the polka spread from the Czech Republic to France, and soon it captivated the whole of Europe. Hence the variation of the name, for example, Finnish, Belarusian, Hungarian and so on.

Let's get acquainted with the basic movements of this dance. Firstly, polka is a pair performance. Secondly, perform it at a fast pace, the musical size is 2/4. This is a fairly simple dance, and beginners need to learn only a couple of basic movements. On the other hand, easy-to-look steps require a virtuoso performance from the dancer - not everyone can do it too fast.

Polka is a social and at the same time concert action. It is appropriate not only at parties and corporate parties, but it looks great on stage.

The performance of polka is different for different nationalities. For example, Belarusians perform it very gracefully, Russians are fun, but Estonians are, perhaps, the only people who could turn a dance from superfast to slow.

The first thing we'll pay attention to is the step with the jump. In fact, its name already speaks for itself. It is necessary to carry out the movement easily and at ease. The score of the tact will be "one, two, three, and one, two, three ..." or "one, two, three ...".

It consists of a step with a jump from such elements:

  1. Rise lightly to the half-toes for two-fourths of the dance beat count.
  2. At the expense of "and" a little squat, and the "time" with a sharp movement straighten and align your knees, so that they were stretched like a string.
  3. Then go up to the half-toes, and at the expense of the "two" smoothly drop and relax your knees so that they do not have any tension, and they looked at ease.
  4. This movement continues with the bending of the foot, which is performed at ΒΌ of the bar. First, "and" make a small (almost imperceptible) squat, then - relaxation of the knees.
  5. On the "fold" straighten the bent knee of the left leg, and the right bend.
  6. Again on the "and" the right foot is placed on the entire foot, and we relax the knees.

During the performance of this movement, the dancer's body must remain perfectly even and do not succumb to inertial repetitions of the partner's movements.

Another basic movement of polka is called overstepping. Perform it in one stroke: on the "and" bend the right foot and raise the half-toe on the left, count "once" step with the right foot in place, then on the score "and" we walk in place with the left foot. Repeat steps several times, first doing forward, then right, left and back, and the second step should look like a prefix.
