Plum home (in Latin sounds like Prunus domestica L.) - this is a fairly large shrub or tree. The height of the plum can reach six meters. And sometimes plum trees grow and more than 10-12 meters. Different varieties of plums are different and fruits, their shape is diverse, as, however, the size and color. Plum fruit is characterized by the sweetness of the pulp and the presence of an elliptical bone. Homemade plums do not grow in the wild. Plum is the result of hybridogenic genesis. This species appeared as a result of a random natural compound (hybridization) of Prunus divaricata Ledeb - cherry plums and thorns (in the Latin alphabet - Prunus spinosa L.). It is believed that this rather successful hybridization occurred in the Caucasus, in places where the turn and plum, both parents of the plum, are found in the wild very often. The hybrid, which turned out to be large, juicy and tasty, which distinguished it from its "parents", was quickly noticed by people who began to breed it at an accelerated pace. So, roughly, in this way, in the antiquity a plum appeared. And already later the plum began to breed in neighboring regions, and even later - in remote areas.

Plum: economic use.

Plum fruit can contain up to 17% of different types of sugars: glucose, fructose, sucrose (to a lesser extent). They contain pectin (up to 2%), acids (citric, apple), tanning (no more than 1%) and coloring elements. They contain a lot of carotene (provitamin "A"), various vitamins (C, P, B), potassium salts and elements of other metals. Seeds can accumulate, approximately, 42% of fatty oils. The fruits of plums are eaten and fresh, and often processed: they cook delicious jam, make fruit soups, wine, jam, liqueurs, pastille, sauce, juice, marmalade ... Plums well tolerate freezing, preserving all nutrients.

Ancient healers used glue from plums, fruits, gum, leaves. Plum fruit was recommended as a laxative, choleretic, restorative means. Plums in their practice used Avicenna (11th century), Abu Mansour (10th century). Plum glue was considered very useful, it was used to heal stomatitis.

Folk doctors use both leaves and plum fruits themselves. And leaves are collected from May to the first month of summer, and fruits - until August. Plums can improve appetite, in general, digestion, they are an excellent light laxative. They are useful for constipation, especially chronic, kidney disease, rheumatism, atherosclerosis.

Grouped in a group called "Hungarian", black-fruited varieties of plum are called prunes. Of dried fruits make excellent compotes, but mostly used in medicine. Sugars and prune contribute to an increase in intestinal peristalsis. The use of plums as a laxative is simple: you have to eat 20 plums before going to bed, and the therapeutic lax effect will not take long.

Prunes are known not only for their effect of relaxation. It removes excess cholesterol from our body, it is therefore used for atherosclerosis and gallbladder lesions. Prunes of prunes help to remove excess surplus salt and excess liquid. That is why prunes are recommended for hypertensive problems and kidney diseases. Preparations based on thorn fruits can have a laxative effect (especially flowers), antibacterial and expectorant. They are able to relax smooth muscle, reduce vascular permeability. In diarrhea caused by various causes, astringent properties of plum fruits are often used. Flowers, having the opposite effect of fruit, act loosely, gently regulating intestinal peristalsis and reducing the ducts of the liver. They have a positive effect on the activity of metabolic processes in the body.

Preparations from plum flowers can help with skin diseases, dermatoses, kidney damage, bladder. They are used for neuralgia, dyspnea, nausea, bloating, intestinal colic.

Tincture of flowers of plums is also drunk with lesions of the kidneys, dermatoses, inflammations of the bladder, etc.

Tincture of the bark of plum tree is used for malaria, diarrhea, erysipelas, as well as for douching.

Plum juice is destructive for the simplest, including lamblia.

Those who spend a lot of time in a sitting position are advised to drink tea from plum leaves.

Infusion of bark. To prepare a decoction from the plum bark, take a teaspoon of raw materials and pour a glass of water (hot), boil, using a water bath for 30 minutes, through gauze filter and squeeze. Dilute the broth with water until the previous condition. Take the broth should be a third cup three times a day on an empty stomach.

Infusion of plum leaves . It is prepared by counting a glass of water (hot) on a table spoon of leaves. Pour one into another and bring to a boil, boil for 15 minutes, wait until it cools, diluted to the previous volume with water. Drink three times a day for half a cup on an empty stomach.

Infusion of plum flowers. When it is cooked, 25 g of flowers are poured a glass of boiling water, maintained as a regular tea. Drink a third cup before meals 3 times a day.

Plum fruit and juice is an excellent dietary product that improves appetite, enhances the digestion process, enriches the body with elements of vitamins.

Plum is often prescribed for heart diseases, vascular lesions, with anemia.

Contraindications. Plums in children can cause diarrhea, so nursing mothers should be careful not to consume fruits in unlimited quantities. If the babies, due to the mother's ingestion of plums, had diarrhea, began to grumble the tummy, then they need to give a little dill-water.
