How to return a child to breastfeeding

Perhaps you are breastfeeding, and for a time you were separated from the baby. Maybe, after giving birth, you had little milk, and after the baby was prescribed artificial nutrition, it disappeared completely. If the child has grown enough, they start giving him extra food, as a result, the baby refuses the breast.

With any of these cases you have not encountered, the child's return to breastfeeding is always possible, but you need to be able to dare. You will have to make a choice, because you can return the baby to breastfeeding, only drastically changing their habits in communicating with the baby. Many things that are convenient for the mother will have to be sacrificed.

The resumption of breastfeeding is called relaxation. In principle, the relaxation is possible even for a woman who did not give birth to a baby, because the development of milk is affected not only by physiological factors, but also by psychological factors.

The hormone prolactin, which is responsible for producing milk from a woman, is produced in a larger amount if the baby sucks more often. This means, in particular, that if you do not have enough milk, you need to put the baby to the breast as often as possible. If you switch to additional feeding, the milk disappears completely.

It would seem, what is the problem here. You just need to put the baby to his chest as soon as he asks you to eat, and give him, if possible, to suck out all the milk himself. But the child, who is fed with artificial compounds, gets them from the nipple. For him, this way of getting food is much easier, and he begins to give up his breast. The amount of milk in this case is reduced and now the child is completely switched to the mixture. Maybe someone will find it convenient for themselves. But children who have received less breastfeeding have a weakened immune system and are prone to allergies. It often happens that children who have been returned to breastfeeding will permanently lose allergy to certain foods that they will return to later.

So that the child does not get used to the nipple, feed it from a spoon. This recommendation can also be used by those mothers who are not going to return the baby to breastfeeding. The process of breast sucking helps to properly form the bite and develop the muscles of the child's face. Nipples and pacifiers, in turn, are one of the reasons for the appearance of crooked teeth.

If you have a problem: how to return the child to breastfeeding, how to regain milk or how to increase its production, you need to establish contact with the child. The mother must always be near the baby. It can be very hard for some moms, because you need to sleep with the baby, almost all the time to keep it in your arms. Explain to your family how to return the baby to breastfeeding, they should not interfere with you.

Throw away all the nipples and pacifiers. Now you need a breast pump, a spoon and a sling that will help carry the baby in your arms. When lactation is restored, the child should be worn at all times. The mother should take care of the baby, swaddle, change the diaper. Contact with the skin is very important, so the child and mother should have a minimum of clothing. It is better not to go out these days from home, and if you are still going for a walk, also carry the child in your arms, and do not put in the stroller. If the child is not accustomed to the hands, at first it will be capricious. Establish contact gradually, first put the child next to him on the bed, then start taking briefly in his arms.

The breast should now replace the baby with a bottle and pacifier, if you chose a relaxation, it is better once and for all. When the child gets used to the hands and will behave calmly, start offering him a breast. Many children have a habit of sucking their mother's breasts after getting to know the bottle. Artificial men may never have taken a breast, but the breast sucking skill is inherent in children genetically. To awaken him, the child is put to sleep in a sleepy state. During the day the baby is applied to the chest every hour, for the night 3-4 times when the child is worried or on an alarm clock. Breast with each attachment is changed. The number of artificial complementary foods is gradually reduced. First you will have a little milk, but with the right actions, milk will come every day.

Take lactagonia teas, ginger, anise infusion, cream with cumin.

When the milk arrives, along with the mixture the child will receive more food. As a consequence, he will have more urination. As soon as the child began to wet diapers more often, it is time to reduce the amount of artificial mixture. To correctly calculate the number of urination, you need to use ordinary diapers, rather than disposable diapers.

When lactation is restored, your own schedule of lactation will be developed. Depending on the age of the child, it will be equal to 1.5 or 2 hours. For one feeding the baby is applied to one breast.

If the milk is returned in insufficient quantity, the baby will have to be kept mixed. At 6 months, the milk mixture is replaced with mashed potatoes and porridges.
