Foreign body that fell into the eye of a child

The foreign body that got into the eye of a child is what usually happens very often. Any speck of dust or mote, a small insect, a cilium falls into our eyes almost daily, causing unpleasant sensations. But we need to distinguish: when the situation is not critical, and the foreign body just gets on the surface of the eyeballs or remains on the inside of the eyelid; and when the situation takes a dangerous turn, and the object penetrates into the eye tissues.

Foreign bodies that hit the eye, you must either try to extract yourself, or entrust it to the doctor, if the situation is really serious and the eye was seriously damaged? First, let's look at the beginning: what are the signs that something has got into the eye?

- if something hits your eye, you will constantly feel this "something", it will interfere with you, deliver discomfort when you blink;

- a foreign body hit the eye, which means that it caused redness and lacrimation;

- the child has photophobia - that is, when the light becomes brighter and more intense, the unpleasant feelings accompanying getting into the eye of a foreign body become sharper;

- if you thoroughly examine the eye, you can see in it the body that got there (it may be located directly on the eyeball, and if it is not visible there - try to pull in turn first the upper, then the lower eyelid - and look there).

It would seem, to cope with a foreign body caught in the eye, is extremely simple: you can just get it with your finger. However, it is not for nothing that doctors offer other types of first aid actions to patients. It is with them that we will get acquainted in this article.

1. If a foreign object is on the surface, and not penetrated into the eye tissue, then it can be tried simply by washing it with water. Take a piece of bandage to wrap your fingers around it and open your eyelids wider. It is advisable to take water for rinsing in a vial that creates a small head: for example, in a bottle, in a rubber medical pear, in a syringe (do not forget to remove the needles beforehand!) Or simply from a tap (you can use a shower, only with a head do not overdo it). Rinse your eyes, moving in the direction from the outer corner - to the inner.

2. If, after you seemingly very carefully washed the eye, but still the foreign body remained in it, on examination it is noticeable and still feels in the eye, then take a clean handkerchief, moisten its edge with water (and if there is an eye antiseptic at hand - then use it) - and try to remove a foreign object with a corner of the kerchief.

3. After the foreign body is removed from the eye, it should be dripped with an antiseptic solution for the eyes.

    There are several actions that it is undesirable to do when there is a foreign body in the eye, since they can drive it into tissues - and then it will not be easy to get it. So, doctors do not recommend rubbing the eye with their hands. And even more so you can not try to remove the foreign body itself, which tore the eye tissue and got stuck in the eyeball. How to distinguish an object that remained on the surface and the body that got stuck? The fact is that in the second case, no matter how much you blink, the position of the object in the eye will not change. Also, in no case should you try to pull out a foreign body using a sharp object (for example, tweezers, a needle or something else).

    Sometimes the situation seems to us familiar and completely uncritical, so we do not have a desire to show the child to the doctor right after something hit him in the eye. We are trying to independently remove a foreign body, although sometimes these attempts do not end in success. Glazik begins to water, the unpleasant sensations of blinking in the child turn into a constant stabbing pain, and it seems as if he ceases to understand - did you pull a foreign object from the eye, or is it still there? However, even if the baby refuses to continue to "cooperate" with you and open his eyes so that you once again checked him for the presence of a foreign body, you still need to persuade him to open the eye. There are several situations when a doctor's appointment is inevitable, and the faster you take the injured child to the hospital, the better. These cases include:

    - when a foreign object tore the tissue and is deeply stuck in the eye;

    - even if after a long time you washed the injured eye with running water and tried to get a foreign body with the help of the corner of the handkerchief, the jammed object still did not leave the chosen place and remained free to "swim" over the eyeball;

    - when the baby is very small and does not allow you to properly rinse the affected eye;

    - If you have removed a foreign body from the child's eye, but after an hour he still has some complaints about the condition.

    There are also several rules regarding the transportation of a toddler. So, before you carry it, you need to cover the sick eye with a bandage consisting of a handkerchief (or a piece of gauze), moistened with a special antiseptic. It should be borne in mind that the bandage can put pressure on the patient's eyes, so on a handkerchief you need to place, for example, a small plastic cup, and from above to fix the bandage with a bandage. As you know, a glass is needed in order that the fixing gauze is not pressed into the wounded glazik.

    With eyes, you need to be very careful, since vision is one of the most important feelings of a person. And even more so it concerns the child - after all he knows the world, first of all, with the help of visual images. If, as a result of any eye injury, vision begins to set, this can lead to irreparable consequences. Therefore, it is better to sow a small panic and deliver the child to the doctor, so he said that there is nothing terrible, than to let things go on their own and run the problem.

    With any complaint of the child to the pain in the eyes or the sensation of a foreign object in it - you need to immediately look at the eye, and even if you do not find anything - yet consult a doctor. Perhaps the object is very small, and it got into the eye tissue.
