In Ukraine kutya plays a very important role, because it is not only a memorial dish, but also an integral part of the Holy Supper. By tradition, this dish starts dinner. In fact, kutya is very useful, it contains a lot of vitamins and trace elements, so you can safely eat it every day.


A delicious little throat is a symbol of a good harvest and prosperity for the whole year! That is why all the owners, if possible, try to make it so rich and appetizing. Each family tries to cook it according to her own recipe, adding honey, cream, syrup. But this applies only to the Christmas dish, the funeral kutya must be lean.

Traditionally, kutya should be made of wheat, but there was a time when it was made from rye and barley. Now very often they cook kutya from rice. In order to remove the husks, the grains need to be ground in a mortar, but you should make sure that the grains are not damaged. After this, you need to sift the grain and cook porridge from pure grains.

  4. After this poppy, raisins and cereals should be mixed with honey and heated on low heat for 6-7 minutes. Do not forget to stir constantly. When you remove the porridge from the fire, add any jam.
