Shepard Pie is a classic dish of English cuisine. He will easily satisfy the hunger, restore strength and leave a delightful aftertaste of the traditional London meal.
Ingredients:
- 0.5 kg of ground beef
- 2 tbsp. l. olive oil
- ½ large onion
- 3 - 4 cloves of garlic
- 2 medium carrots
- 2 stalks of celery
- ¾ cup frozen fresh peas
- 1 tsp. dry Italian herbs
- 1 tbsp. l. Worcestershire sauce
- 200 ml of tomato sauce
- 60-80 grams of crushed fresh parsley
- 3 - 4 boiled potatoes, peeled
- 15 - 30 g of butter
- 120 ml of milk or cream
- 1 egg, salt, pepper
Cooking method:
- Preheat the olive oil in a frying pan and pass the finely chopped onions until it is soft and translucent. Add chopped garlic and fry for a few minutes. Pour out the chopped vegetables - carrots, celery and peas. Mix the ingredients thoroughly.
- Put into the mixture minced and cook together with vegetables - the meat should acquire a pleasant brown tint. Salt, pepper, add Italian herbs and Worcestershire sauce.
- Introduce the tomato sauce, reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring. Add parsley and remove from heat.
- Prepare mashed potatoes: boil vegetables in salted water, beat into a homogeneous mass, add butter, cream, salt and pepper. Puree must have a dense and thick consistency.
- In portions for baking put the minced meat with vegetables and a layer of parsley. Close the meat stuffing with mashed potatoes using a pastry syringe, forming patterns.
- Lubricate the surface of the pies with an egg-water emulsion and place in a preheated oven to 200 degrees for 10 to 20 minutes until a golden crust is formed. Garnish with greenery, serve warm.
