About the dangers of chewing marmalade

Such a delicacy for many children and adults as chewing marmalade appeared long ago, somewhere in the middle of the nineteenth century in America. It immediately attracted buyers, thanks to its pleasant taste qualities, as well as convenience in storage, because chewing marmalade did not melt and did not even stick to hands. But in Russia this product appeared much later - in the 90s of the twentieth century, although in Europe it was already learned about it in the early twentieth century.

Quickly realizing that the production of chewing marmalade will bring huge profits, the producers began with the fact that they began to supply his armies, as additives to the rations of soldiers. They liked it, and soon became popular among the civilian population. For many years, many different types of chewing marmalade were created, the trade spread very quickly, because not one generation of Americans liked it.

Now the production of chewing marmalade is quite developed and the producers assure consumers of its usefulness, and not only good taste qualities. But is it true? Recently, often began to talk about the dangers of chewing marmalade. Therefore, in the first place, it is necessary to understand which substances are part of chewing marmalade.

So, among the many components that make up chewing marmalade, the main ones can be considered agar-agar and pectin (usually artificial). These substances are gelling. In addition, the composition includes sugar, various flavors and flavors, some preservatives, molasses and dyes.

Manufacturers call this fruit candy useful, assuring that it is low-calorie, because it contains much less fat than in other sweets (for 100 grams of the product, only about 321 kcal). However, do not forget that it contains a lot of sugar or its substitutes, and this already calls into question the usefulness of using marmalade.

Producers do not hide that there is no health benefit from dyes and flavors, but they assure that these substances do not bring harm. According to them, everything that is considered "identical to natural" in its properties is exactly the same as in natural substances, but it is much cheaper.

Let's try to figure out what harm the marmalade can bring.

As it was already said, in the chewing marmalade instead of natural pectin is often added artificial. Its production occurs in several rather complicated stages with the addition of various acids and other chemicals. Of course, there is no use like waiting for natural pectin, but it should be noted that in small quantities artificial pectin will not do much harm.

The abundance of sugar, pork gelatin and artificial pectin in the marmalade is not so scary, but besides all of the above, the composition includes chemicals such as dyes, preservatives and flavors. They certainly do not bring any benefit. In order to masticate marmalade did not melt or linden to the hands, it was smooth and shiny, a special mixture of wax is added to it. It is 90% of the marmalade. In natural components (vegetable fat and wax), its constituents have much health benefits, but vegetable fats are produced now not without the use of harmful additives.

It is also worth noting that quality producers recognize marmalade varieties, which are made on the basis of only natural fruits. But this does not mean that they can also be eaten in large quantities. Even such marmalade is just a delicacy, you need to know the measure.

Marmalade is recognized as the least harmful sweetness by many nutritionists. Therefore, do not deny yourself its use, but you need to choose it correctly. After carefully studying the composition and not finding artificial additives there, it is possible to give such marmalade even to children from the age of two, but only after eating and in very small quantities.

Usual marmalade, unlike the chewing gum, is more useful, more often than not it is full of artificial chemical additives, therefore it is preferable for children to give it. At least it's safer.
